Thank you for taking time to read The Santaquin Review. Before trying my hand at reporting, I visited the Chieftain Museum and read the messages that prior newspapers had for their readers in their first editions. I was comforted to find that in 1969 and 1988, editors had similar concerns to my own.
In 1969, The Santaquin News wrote, “To make a first class weekly newspaper, the cooperation of everyone in Santaquin is needed.” They asked for “any worthwhile news items or ideas” to be sent to them; anyone with any advertising needs should contact them; and each family to subscribe.
In 1988, The Summit Creek Sentinel wrote, “[This paper] may look undernourished to begin with, but [it’s] here to stay.”
I echo their words. Much of this edition is composed of reporting on the City Council, but it won’t stay that way for long.
I love Santaquin. I grew up living in Provo, Cedar Hills, and West Mountain, but Santaquin is the perfect mix of urban an rural.
Yes! I want to preserve the history of Santaquin, but I believe that the purpose of preserving history is to learn about the heroes that made the history. This city was built by people who joyfully lived hard lives so that they could share the bounty of their labors with their children.
The mission of this Review is to review the past to build a better tomorrow. We all must rise up to the task to build a city that will protect us and our children and stand the test of time.
While this edition of The Santaquin Review contains much from the recent City Council Meeting, this will not always be the case.
This publication will be focused on the people and past of Santaquin. It seems nowadays that you can find anything you want about current events online, but this publication will unveil the beauty of the people and their city.
We will spotlight public servants, such as police officers and teachers, as well as business owners and local church leaders.
We invite you to go to the sponsor’s website and subscribe for free and spend a few minutes each week learning about our community. You can also submit a story or request ad space on that same website.
And again, thank you for reading.
